Sound familiar?

Udi Glaser playing his guitar Bluey

I was stuck there too

When I started playing, I was almost tone-deaf. My guitar teacher once told me to sing a tune, and I froze.

Years later, after chords, scales and studying musicology, I still couldn't finish my own music. I had ideas. I didn't know how to put the pieces together.

More theory didn't fix it. More licks didn't fix it. What fixed it was a process.

It's not talent. It's a missing process.

Composing isn't a gift some people are born with. It's a skill, and like any skill, it needs steps.

Nature already has the steps. A seed doesn't become a tree all at once. It grows, stage by stage. Music can grow the same way: from one small idea, often one you sing, into a finished piece.

I've tested this process for years with my students. They finished music they never thought they could write.

Meet your guide

Hey! I’m Udi Glaser, a guitarist, composer and teacher based in London.

I picked up the guitar in 1991 and never really put it down. Since then, I’ve spent more than 20 years performing, teaching, composing and writing about music, including for Guitar World and Fingerstyle Guitar Journal.

I’ve always been fascinated by one question: how do we actually become more creative musicians?

That curiosity led me to study Musicology & Philosophy, sound, orchestration and music production at Berklee, and eventually complete an MA in Music Psychology (with Distinction), where I researched musical creativity.

Everything I teach comes from years of real-world playing and teaching, and a deep obsession with understanding how creativity actually works.

What readers say

Linda Porter's review: I’m really enjoying this book and the way it approaches learning guitar and composing… I especially like the interactive exercises and the questions that make me stop and listen to what I’m actually hearing and feeling… And I love the note talking feature.
Linda Porter, on Facebook
John Butz's comment: I'm just on pg. 21, but I did a skim and can see the vastness and lengths you went to to produce a masterpiece!
John Butz, on Skool

“Udi channels this encouraging approach into a practical, organic framework that demystifies composition and proves it's a nurtured skill rather than a magical gift.”

Is this book for you?

It's for you if…

  • You have riffs, melodies or voice memos, but rarely finish them.
  • You know chords and scales, but don't know how to turn them into music.
  • You're tired of noodling and playing the same things.
  • You want to create music that sounds like you.
  • You'd rather learn melody, harmony and rhythm by using them, with your guitar in your hands.

It's not for you if…

  • You only want covers, tabs or licks to copy.
  • Your main goal is speed, shredding or technique.
  • You want another theory book, without making music.
  • You're looking for recording, mixing or production training.
  • You're not ready to try ideas, get them imperfect, and keep going.

Honest answers before you buy

How much does it cost?

$69, once. No subscription, and every future update is free.

Will I actually use it, or is it another book I won't finish?

You don't read it all first. In lesson one you start with one small idea, and you grow it as you go. Every lesson ends with a challenge on your guitar.

Is it for my level and style?

If you know a few chords and scales, yes. Any style: fingerstyle, blues, rock, folk, classical or jazz.

I don't have much time. Will it work for me?

Lessons are about 8 pages each, at your own pace. With Read to me, you can listen away from the guitar too.

How is this different from YouTube lessons?

YouTube teaches you other people's music, one video at a time. This is one process, start to finish, for writing your own.

Can't I learn this from a theory book?

Theory books explain the rules. They don't tell you what to play next. This book starts from your ideas and brings in theory only where it helps. You don't need to know theory to start.

Book or coaching?

The book is the full process at your own pace. If you want me to guide you through it with feedback, have a look at my Skool programme.

How long until I finish a piece?

It's very individual. Students I guide one-to-one usually finish their first piece in about 60 days. The book is new, so I'll share readers' timelines as they finish.

Can I get a refund?

You get instant access to the whole book and apps, so all sales are final. If anything doesn't work, email me at [email protected] and I'll sort it out.

Is there a printed copy?

Not at the moment. It's interactive, so the examples play and the book can read itself to you, which paper can't do.

How do I get the book after I pay?

Straight after checkout you'll see your personal access code, and it's emailed to you too. Tap "Open my book" and you're in.

Which devices does it work on?

Any phone, tablet or computer with a web browser: iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac, Windows, Chromebook, plus an Apple Books edition. Your code works on up to 5 devices, and you can save the book so it works with no internet.

What happens when the book is updated?

The web book updates itself the next time you open it online. For the Apple Books edition, download it again from the book’s menu.
